Cologne racecourse became a place for an Ittlingen triumph today when three-year-olds met for the country's most important preliminary test for the Derby! Three weeks before the highlight of the year, NARRATIVO catapulted himself into the role of favourite for the German Derby with a thrilling performance in the 189th Union-Rennen. The Adlerflug colt out of our Lando mare Nicella, trained for us by Peter Schiergen, ran a fantastic race under Adrie de Vries in the 2,200 metres Gr.2 contest, beating his rivals by a length with an irresistible speed attack.
The toughest opponent was our second derby hopeful ALLENO. The protégé of Marcel Weiß came charging from the back of the field under Rene Piechulek and made his way past the pack of speed horses to finish one and a three quarter lengths behind NARRATIVO in second place.
